Amy believes our legacy of woodlands, lakes, and wetlands make West Bloomfield a great place to live. She will support our environmental protections to keep the Township clean, green and leafy -- while we promote clear paths to sustainable development and redevelopment.
Amy championed the acquisition of 60 new acres of protected park space within the Township. She initiated the Parks Sustainability Committee and is working on a pilot program to prevent food waste with nonprofit Make Food not Waste.
She composts, has a pollinator garden and plants native species.

As a commissioner of West Bloomfield Parks, Amy shares oversight for 12 parks and facilities and nearly 600 acres of public parkland. Connect, a 9,000 square foot facility, hosts a variety of senior activities. Amy has reviewed the plans for the multi-generational community center to be built on the Civic Center Campus. Amy ran for the Parks Commission to support WB's civic legacy, which also includes our award-winning Library, a state-of-the-art facility with creative, community-centered programs far beyond books. But still lots of books! Amy's commitment to civic engagement includes convening diverse voices in the democratic process, community service, and voting. Amy supports a vibrant civic life.

"According to the most recent National Climate Assessment, the Midwest will experience more extreme weather events, which includes heavy rains and flooding. In order for the State of Michigan and our West Bloomfield community to prepare for a future that includes heavy, prolonged rains that are more frequent, we need smart policy and smart practices that will keep our residents, homes and lands safe. In working on climate resilience for the past 20+ years, I've found it is necessary that we expand the ability for our neighborhoods to capture and absorb rainwater, to keep it from flooding homes and causing more destruction. The risk of flooding increased when we have neighborhoods that have too much concrete, too much development, and efforts that reduce green space (i.e., grass, trees, permeable surfaces) and wetlands. Going forward, it is imperative that our West Bloomfield leadership continue to support efforts that maintain our wetlands, create green storm water infrastructure, and that we strongly consider the negative impacts of development of any kind before making any decisions for new infrastructure. "
--- Dr. Jalonne White-Newsome, WB resident, Township Assessor Board member, and national environmental advocate endorses Amy for West Bloomfield Township Trustee.
